Beginning June 27, 2018, Bishop L. Jonathan Holston has appointed Rev. Ken Timmerman as the senior pastor of Lexington United Methodist Church. Welcome, Rev. Timmerman! The following is a little about him.
—-
I was born in Graniteville, SC and have been a South Carolinian all my life. I am a graduate of USC and am an avid Gamecock fan. My seminary work was done at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia as I worked as a youth director at Grace UMC in North Augusta. I have served appointments in Greeleyville-Lane, Bellinger Chapel-Brunson, Gramling UMC, First UMC in Myrtle Beach as the associate for five years and then as the Senior Pastor for eleven years, sandwiched in between was a four-year appointment at St. Mark in Greenwood. I have been serving First UMC in Cheraw since 2016. Married to Sara Dee and have one son, Cooper.
I enjoy college sports, golf, reading, and have a great love for the church. My home church, St John UMC, is on the historic register in South Carolina. I have served for thirty-five years and still enjoy getting up everyday to serve God through the church. My grandfather taught me that every day above ground is a good day. I bring enthusiasm and a positive spirit to all I do. Negative thoughts are never good things so I do my best not to have them. Whatever is in the past is something we can do nothing about except learn so I do not believe on dwelling on nor in the past. I like to always move forward. Of every church I serve I have asked the questions: What are we good at? What are we not so good at? What are our hopes and dreams? What can the Lord do to help us be a stronger church? Ken Timmerman
