175th Anniversary Celebration

On September 7th, our church will officially celebrate our 175th Anniversary and all are invited to join in on the celebration. What began with 5 members in a shutterless, doorless hewn log cabin facing Fort St. has been persevered for 175 years, and we look forward to celebrating our legacy.

September 7th Celebration

On Sunday, September 7th, we will worship together as ONE at 10 am in Wesley Hall (Gym)! This will be a blended service featuring music from both our praise band and our chancel choir, as well as former pastors Reverend Ken Owens and Miyoung Paik sharing the message. Immediately following the service will be a catered lunch from Hudson’s Smokehouse. Tickets for the lunch will go on sale July 27th, at $15 per adult and $12 for children under 12, and can be purchased online, during coffee time or after the 11 am service through August 31st.

Also make sure to check out “Celebration Hall” which will highlight our missions and the art created by our LUMC Members, as well as enjoy special music from church musicians during lunch.

Accepting Submission for Artist Showcase

Calling all Artists, Writers, Musicians, & Craftsmen: The committee planning the 175th Anniversary Celebration of LUMC invites artists, writers, musicians and craftsmen from the church to express memories, thoughts, prayers, or appreciations for LUMC through original artwork, stories, poems, songs or crafts. We know that we have many talented members, and we would like to showcase these talents in conjunction with our 175th Anniversary Celebration on September 7th. Items may be submitted to Ann Cimburke (cimburkes@aol.com), Miyoung Paik (miyoungpaik2018@gmail.com), or Lynn Brewer (bmlynn75@gmail.com) by Aug. 16th. These items will be showcased on September 7th at the 175th Anniversary Celebration.

Contribute to the Legacy Fund

Another way you may join in on the celebration on September 7th is to make a special contribution. The legacy of Lexington UMC is the people—from the first 5 people who formed the church in 1850 through today, it’s the people who worship together that make our church what it is and establish what it will be in the future. As you remember our past, celebrate our legacy, and look towards the future, you have the opportunity to remember our church through the Legacy Fund. This special fund is earmarked to assist those outside our church and improve our church.

We ask that each person prayerfully consider a Legacy Fund gift. Whether it is $175 ($1 for each year of the church), $1750 ($10 for each year), $17500 ($100 for each year) or anywhere in between, your gift will establish your legacy and improve the life of the church and this community for the next 175 years.

The total gifts received will be distributed in this manner—

  • 25% to missions
  • 65% for refurbishment projects including the Sanctuary, grounds, and others around the church
  • 10% to the Reserve Fund to keep the church legacy living on.

Thank you for considering a gift. Any amount you feel led to give, over and above your tithing, will be impactful for the church and greatly appreciated.

Other Ways to Celebrate

We are being honored by the Lexington Town Council at their meeting on Aug 4th at 6:30pm. It will  be proclaimed Lexington United Methodist Day on September 7th. We hope that many of you will attend the Town Hall meeting on August 4th.
