Epworth Children’s Home issues approximately 180 backpacks to its resident children/young adults each year. Epworth provides a backpack to each child that comes into their home and those children take that backpack with them when they get placed into a permanent home or returned to their family. Epworth tries to purchase backpacks that are strong and have a lifetime warranty so they do not have to re-purchase worn and torn backpacks for the same children.
Lexington United Methodist Church has now made the Give “BACK” Pack Mission our summer Epworth Children’s Home mission, along with our Annual Angel Wish Program. This mission is to simply help raise money to purchase the needed backpacks each year. Money donations will be collected until July 21st and then a bulk order of backpacks will be made and presented to Epworth by early August. The number of backpacks needed at Epworth are as follows by size and monetary amount:
100 Large Backpacks (60 girls, 40 boys)
@ $55.00 each
Grand Total Needed – $5,500.00
With so many thriving children and families in our church and knowing the excitement that a new school year brings to all children/young adults, we know that donating to this most worthy cause will be another great way for our church family to Give “BACK” Packs and bring joy to the children and young adults at the Epworth Children’s Home.
Please either provide your cash or check (check can be made out to LUMC and put in memo – Backpack Mission or Epworth) and place in offering, give to the church office or call/text Lori Torbett 803-629-7126 to make arrangements for your donation. Many Blessings!! The children at Epworth say THANK YOU!!
